• Product Review: Private Selection® Frozen Foods

I recently had the opportunity to try a few products from Private Selection® Frozen Foods (available at Fry's/Kroger stores.  I decided to choose a pizza, Southwestern Chicken Trumpets, and the Belgian Chocolate Lava Cakes.

I was really excited to try the Barbecue Chicken Pizza.  My husband loves thin crust pizza, and this one did not disappoint us.  It's important to remember that these are NOT full-size pizzas - they serve probably 2-3 people.  We both liked the taste of this pizza. I do wish it was a little bigger, though, as we had NO leftovers!

The only appetizer I could find at my local Fry's store was the Southwestern Chicken Trumpets - which were delicious.  I was expecting them to be a little larger, but overall I enjoyed the taste.  My 4-year-old thought they were super fun, but a little spicy for her taste.  I would recommend taking them out of the oven a little earlier than the suggested time - or at least keep checking on them occasionally.  I did burn them a little.  They were difficult to get off of the cookie sheet.  Next time, I'd probably line it with aluminum foil.

Finally, I made the Belgian Chocolate Lava Cakes for New Year's Eve.  (Sorry the picture is a little dark...I was in a hurry because my guests were drooling over them!) I had to heat mine a lot longer than the recommended 20 seconds, but these were really, really, good.  So good, in fact, that they were gone within 2 minutes.  No one touched any of my other desserts!  I thought they were not overly sweet, and loved the rich, gooey chocolate in the middle.  My guests also thought they were very good.  Next time, I would definitely serve them with a side of vanilla ice cream. I think the retail cost was about $9.99 for four cakes - which is reasonable considering the fact that some restaurants will charge $7-$10 for ONE cake.

Overall, I thought that that the Private Selection® Frozen Foods that I tried were very good.  I would recommend buying them on sale, and preferably use a coupon (tip: be sure to check the e-coupons on Fry's website).

Disclosure: I received a product sample, coupon, collateral or other special premium from BzzAgent.
